If you were put in charge of your life as a manager-- would you fire yourself?

If you were put in charge of your life as a manager– would you fire yourself?

Sounds kind of ridiculous! Yet many of us are good at slapping FAIL stickers on ourselves, with an inner voice constantly telling us that we shouldn’t strive higher because we’re ‘not good enough’. Some of us have appointed managers that micro-manage and overanalyse every piece of our lives.

If any of that sounds like you, then without realising it, you’ve been under pretty flakey management.

So go ahead and fire that manager!

Appoint yourself new management. Think about it, if you were paying a manager to manage your life– would you keep one who was ineffective, one who held you back? No?

If you’re thinking of starting or running a new business, it’s especially important to throw off any old mindsets that are holding you back. Otherwise, you could find yourself throwing in the towel when you hit the first obstacles.

If you find yourself saying, “Surely it’s meant to be easier than this!”, realise that other people have hit and overcome the same obstacles, and more importantly, realise that it could be that old flakey manager whispering in your ear.

Surround yourself with people who want to see the best in you, and who will encourage and support you. If you want to take on a new challenge or direction, but don’t feel quite ready–don’t push it! You don’t want a boot-camp manager either.

Take small steps, and you’ll get there (even if some days you feel like you’re going backwards!)

If you’ve been under shonky management, here’s some things you can do to make a new start:

Break a large goal down into sets of small goals– at the end of each day, congratulate yourself for goals achieved and don’t sweat the ones you didn’t get to.

Network with like-minded people– join forums and meet with network in your local community. You’ll find most people friendly and helpful.

Seek the services of a life or business coach– they are there to help you take the next step from where you are now, wherever that may be.

Help others with their goals– you’ll grow more confident as you realise that you have more to offer than you gave yourself credit for.

Keep a journal– only write down the good stuff– don’t let your old, negative ’life manager’ step on your neck with negative gunk.
