Winter fashion– Love it or loathe it?
Jennie Egan Miller, director of
shimi.com.au talks about getting the most out of winter fashion!
Autumn/Winter Fashion, most people love it or hate it.
I am a lover. The darker colours always look a little more elegant to me and the designs just a little more chic than summer fashion.
It is harder to mess up a winter outfit than a summer outfit (although, it can be done– think Mariah in her ski outfits!) With the designs being conducive to warmth, the trousers and pants are sleeker and more form fitting. This can be scary for bigger people, but believe it or not, the more tailored and fitting to the bodies basic outline the slimmer one looks. (We aren’t talking Lady GaGa spandex lycra super fitting!)
Grey is popular this year
The vast majority of winter fashion is in your basic colours of black, brown, cream– and denim of course. So with a smaller colour pallet to mix it is a safe ground. This year’s popular hue is grey, from light to dark it is the colour of the moment. Grey has become a neutral colour of late. No more mixing with pale pink and apricot– put with black, red, bright pink, blues and greens it makes for a really fabulous outfit.
Cardigans are simple but classic
For winter style, cardigans are once again everywhere and unfortunately for me, are my weakness. I must admit with some guilt that I have a cardi in most colours you could imagine. However in saying that, some date back to being 15 years old, but they are a simple addition to the wardrobe that is classic in style.
The jumper or cardigan is an easy buy too. If you own one that suits your style you know from then on what will be the best buy, therefore you can buy online without the anxiety that it may not fit or suit. Cardigans are also perfect for Spring.
Adventures in buying jeans online
Although I own an online boutique and love people to buy online with Shimi, one thing I would not buy or sell online is jeans. They have to fit perfectly and unless you have the body of a supermodel, it is a tricky one. I love to shop, but I find shopping for jeans about as easy as roller-skating backwards whilst balancing a bowl of hot curry on my head. Oh well, we can’t have everything our own way!
However– the jeans, top, cardi look (when worn as a constant) can look a little boring. That is when it is time to grab some jewellery and express yourself. Of course diamonds never date, but beaded jewellery can be very effective. It gives a lot of colour and can draw attention if worn distinctively.
Accessorising with glass-art jewellery
Look out for the next big craze in jewellery – glass art. It is very individual, with most pieces being unique in that every button or bead made is slightly different, and although it can be quite chunky, it is divine.
